The Gavin Kerr Quartet featuring Mel Crothers 6.00pm tonight at The Ellington

As a perennial sideman, drummer and arranger Gavin Kerr has worked with many musical groups since graduating from WAAPA with the Bob Wylie Scholarship for the best graduating student.  This April Fool’s Day he gets the opportunity to be bandleader at the Ellington for the very first time.
Joining Gavin will be Ookii Effendi on piano, Danny Moss Jnr on bass and Daron Crothers on reeds.
Having performed hundreds of times together it is obvious to the many audiences that have heard their music that this quartet truly enjoy their musical partnership.

On this Sunday night at the Ellington the group will feature one of Perth’s most versatile and soulful vocalists, Mel Crothers.

Equipped with a powerful voice, Mel is at home singing swinging standards or soulful ballads.
After a successful launch of her debut pop album, NEOLIGHT late last year, she will be revisiting her jazz roots, drawing repertoire from jazz greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn and Anita O’Day.
This Ellington debut promises to be a special night of swinging music that will send you home with your toes tapping and ready to take on the working week wearing a smile.
