Rachel Claudio (Paris) headlines this week at The Ellington


The amazing Rachel Claudio is back for two extra early shows after sold out late sets in February. Debut shows from mUnk (tonight) and Laura Bernay on Sunday. Also catch our members free night on Tuesday with Victoria Newton and the Graham Wood trio (all welcome).

MONDAY 7.00pm mUnk
Three diverse musicians come together in an eclectic experimental blend of fusion, jazz, funk and trip-hop all with an infectious groove. Comprised of recording artist, producer and pianist Noah Shilkin, avante-garde bassist and guitarist Mat Lewis and percussion dynamo Leeroy Cummings. mUnk delivers the true spirit of improvisation, elements of surprise and a healthy sense of humour. TUESDAY 8.00pm Members free night - The Graham Wood Trio with Victoria Newton
Join us for a wonderful evening with Ellington members, guests as well as any non-members welcome on the night. The Graham Wood Trio will be joined by the wonderful singer Victoria Newton for a night of song. WEDNESDAY 8.00pm Rhiannan Longley
Rhiannan Longley is one of Perth’s up & coming jazz vocal talents. Known for her unique, pure sound. draws inspiration from jazz greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae, Billie Holiday and Astrud Gilberto as well as modern artists Gretchen Parlato and Esperanza Spalding.  Bronton Ainsworth - Drums, Ben Matthews - Piano, Patrick Van der Moezel - Tenor saxophone and Rohan Nelson - Bass. Click here for tickets

THURSDAY 8.00pm Blanche Dubois
Blanche DuBois' music is a unique blend of sweet acoustic pop, tinged with a hint of country and a smattering of heart. It's the beauty in the ordinary, the every day. FRIDAY 8.00pm Rachel Claudio (Paris)
Rachel Claudio is a singer/songwriter/pianist/producer/actor originally from Australia, who draws influence from such Soul & nu-Soul artists as Chaka Khan, Lauryn Hill, Prince, Dwele, Erykah Badu & Marvin Gaye. She moved to Paris in August 2006, where herself and Nicolas Vautier created the House music label JaffaMusic. Whilst in Paris, she has collaborated with, written for or sung for King Britt, Martin Solveig, Ralf Gum, Yass, DJ Fudge, Tony L & Roy Davis Jr. Rachel has formed a band in Paris as a vehicle for her original Soul compositions. She released her incredible album Claudiography in 2011 to critical aclaim. Rachel is a powerhouse singer, musician and composer of the highest order and has to be seen to be believed. Click here for tickets

FRIDAY 11.30pm Horizon Art Orchestra
The Ellington's Late Night Groove Series features this fantastic powerhouse big band playing r&b, soul, funk and Motown classics. The vocal sounds of Carrie Pereira and Luke Dewing will be accompanied by the tightest horn lines and grooving rhythm section of the Horizon Art Orchestra. HAO is the newest big band out of Perth, recently capping off a frenetic first year of performing and recording original music. Formed by composers Elliott Hughes and Daniel Connor, this edgy young ensemble is comprised of fifteen exceptional and impassioned instrumentalists and virtuosic musicians. Click here for tickets

“Saudade” Nostalgia and reminiscing…
Laura Bernay is known for her impressive cross-over styles of singing and flute-playing. In this show she and Mike Nelson (piano), Paul Millard (sax), Murray Willkins (bass), and Peter Evans (drums) take you on a journey of melancholy and musings about life and love with gorgeous tunes from the great jazz composers. The show is mixed with Laura’s classic  chansons which she sings in perfect French with charm and flair. Her natural delivery allows the craft of the composers, whose work she performs, to shine through. Click here for tickets

Marc Rodrigues is a Perth drummer who has just found out that he has cancer. Marc is 36 years old with a wife, Hayley Rodrigues, and 2 daughters Mya 10 and Shay 5. This fundraiser is to help him and his family get through the treatment when their income will be very limited. Click here for tickets
