The expats are back this week at The Ellington


Don't miss two exciting shows from two of our finest musical expats this week. Graeme Blevins (UK) on Tuesday and Grant Windsor (UK) on Thursday are making a great impact on the UK music scene and are back for exclusive shows at The Ellington. We also are pleased to host Rick Webster's CD launch on Wednesday and the debut for Analisa Bell with Strange Fruit - A Billie Holiday Tribute - on Sunday.

TUESDAY 8.00pm Graeme Blevins (UK)
Graeme Blevins is a talented and versatile tenor saxophonist based in London and originally from Perth, Western Australia. Graeme has worked in London with many fine jazz musicians such as Guy Barker, Mark Turner, Bobby Watson, BBC Big Band, Ronnie Scott’s All-Stars and has worked with and toured extensively for several years with the Kyle Eastwood band. He has also done session work recording and touring around the world with many artists such as Kylie Minogue, Craig David, Kelly Rowland, The Script, James Taylor Quartet, The Fratellis, Boyz to Men, Dominic Miller, Manu Katche, Carleen Anderson, Max Cole, The Blockheads, Natalie Williams, X Factor Big Band, Tony Hadley, Ben Cullum, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, The Singapore Symphony Orchestra, The West Australian Symphony Orchestra, The Delta Saxophone Quartet, The Endymion Ensemble, Domu, Nicola Kramer, Dave Jones, Michele Amador, Michelle Escoffery and Spiritual South. WEDNESDAY 8.00pm Rick Webster CD launch
Rick has spent the last few years supporting many local and international artists that pass through Perth on a regular basis. In July 2011 after many years of preparation Rick has put together his experiences and influences into his first release as a band leader. Tonight will be the launch of this CD and a taste of what's to come on his next release. Additionally it will be the debut of Rick's new project featuring Allira Wilson on vocals. Combining Jazz and contemporary music, Rick has written a unique collection of tunes that will combine influences such as Pat Metheny, The Police, Dire Straits, Robben Ford and more. THURSDAY 8.00pm Grant Windsor (UK)
Since his move to the UK he has worked with many great artists including Jose James, Carole King, Jamelia, Lizz Wright, Benji B, Bilal, Sir Michael Parkinson, Pino Palladino, Plan B, Clare Teal, TY, Russell Watson, Matthew Herbert Bigband, Stephanie Mckay, Nailah Porter, Marius De Vries, Badmarsh and Shri, The BBC Bigband, Sophie Solomon, Pee Wee Ellis, Gregory Porter, Bosco De Oliviera, Wretch 32, Don-E, Dionne Bromfield, Femi Temowo, and Jean Toussaint to name a few. With influences of Broken Beat, Hip Hop, Dub Step, Jazz and Brazilian music, citing influences of Egberto Gismonti, Kaidi Tatham, Benga, Milton Nascimento and J Dilla, This concert proves to be an exciting, eclectic and fresh mix of music, Not to be missed! FRIDAY 8.00pm Libby Hammer Quintet
A favourite among Perth audiences and musicians alike, jazz vocalist Libby Hammer brings an explosion of energy, vocal style and personality to the Ellington stage. FRIDAY 11.30pm Late night groove series featuring B.U.M.P
Your late Friday late night is in safe hands this week with another dance party driven by the express train of groove BUMP. Come and join Hans, Adam, Matt, Roy, Hussy, Ricki and Dan as they power through a late night session of feel-good discotized and funkified hits. SATURDAY 8.00pm Fiona Lawe Davies
Those who have already witnessed their superb live performance need no introduction to Fiona’s perfectly crafted stage presence and uniquely pure vocal style. With a beguiling blend of jazz standards and less predictable cover tunes, this gifted vocalist never fails to impress. Accompanying her will be some of the most sought after musicians of the much envied Perth jazz scene - Chris Foster (piano), Nick Abbey (bass), Michael Perkins (drums) & Matt Styles (sax). Click here for tickets

SATURDAY 11.30pm Late night groove series featuring Odette Mercy and her Soul Atomics
With a succulent sweet soul infused voice, hand in hand with a dynamic and commanding stage presence, Odette Mercy is certainly making her mark as a front woman and female vocalist. She has been lending her vocals to the recorded tracks of local artists such as the Brow Horn Orchestra, The Accumulated Gestures, and as a special guest in live performances with Rezide and STOOPFRESH. In a short time, OM&HSA have played support gigs for Menahan Street Band, Alice Russell, Seal and have played on the bill for Seriously Sound System, Funk Club NYE, Spring in the Valley – Houghton’s Winery, Rottnest Comedy Fest, NYE 2011 - Rottnest Island. SUNDAY 6.00pm Strange Fruit A Billie Holiday Tribute
Lady Day' was a true Jazz Diva. Admired the world over for her deeply personal approach to singing, she led a troubled life but somehow rose above it all through her music. Her mesmerising vocals produced many notable standards such as “God Bless the Child”, “The Man I Love”, "What a Little Moonlight Can Do" and “Strange Fruit”. After a sell-out season Downstairs at the Maj in September, Perth cabaret starlet Analisa Bell is bringing this stunning tribute to The Ellington to take you on the journey that is Billie Holiday. Created and performed by Analisa Bell with a three piece band with Musical Director/Arranger/Pianist Tim Cunniffe. Click here for tickets
