Easter weekend at The Ellington


Get set for some great surprises this weekend including a very special late show Saturday from David Ryan Harris (USA), Terepai Richmond (Sydney), Adam Ventoura (Sydney), Howie Morgan, James Sandon and Tom O'Halloran. Also we welcome the return of Adam Hall and the Velvet Playboys Thursday and Saturday and late night Latin Sunday featuring Marcio Mendes and Friends. Tuesday night is free for members but all welcome. 

MONDAY 7.00pm Chamber Jam

Chamber Jam @ The Ellington is a night of chamber music in Perth like no other. Join some of Australia’s leading musicians in three outstanding ensembles performing in one of Perth’s most intimate live music venues. Featuring CADENCE: Songs Without Spokes - Adam Pinto (piano), Louise McKay (cello). TUESDAY 7.00pm Jazz and Art - members free with The Ali Bodycoat Quintet and Phil Doncon live artist

Members free tonight - but all welcome. Ali Bodycoat has been performing professionally in the Jazz scene throughout venues in Western Australia since 1995 with her Trio, Quartet and Quintet. Ali has performed at the Perth Jazz Society, Jazz Fremantle, Perth and Fremantle Festivals and worked consistently in Musical Theatre with yellow glass theatre inc since studying at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 2002. Ali has held a trio residency with Graham Wood and other venerable Perth Jazz musicians such as Sam Anning, Dane Alderson and Carl Mackey at the Subiaco Hotel for thirteen years, supported Vince Jones, Grace Knight and Marcia Hynes and consistently works with the state’s top Jazz Musicians. Recent shows have received critical acclaim including Minor Major Marlene - based on the work of Marlene Dietrich and Franklin - a tribute to Aretha Franklin. Click here for tickets

WEDNESDAY 8.00pm The Russell Holmes Trio

(Note later start time due to private function - doors open at 8.00pm) 2001 WAMI award winning Jazz Pianist, Russell Holmes has performed with many great jazz ensembles including MPS, Frames of Minds, The Raggabillys, Hip Mo Toast and artists such as Dale Barlow, Red Rodney and many others. Most recent highlights would include being invited to perform at the Celimontana Jazz Festival in Rome, Italy  ( July2006 ) and supporting James Taylor at the infamous Leeuwin concert .  Whilst being recorded on over 35 cds, in 2006 he released “One Evening”, a cd recorded with his regular trio with  Matt Willis and Danny Susnjar.  This was launched  in  October 2006 . Russell’s most recent recording is a nationally released cd by the ABC Jazz label entitled Fire and Rain ‘THE JAMES  TAYLOR PROJECT’( released 21st February 2009) which features the regular trio line-up performing eleven beautiful tracks of James Taylor songs. Click here for tickets

THURSDAY 8.00pm Adam Hall and the Velvet Playboys 

(Note later start time due to private function - doors open at 8.00pm) 2013 is full steam ahead for international trumpeter and vocalist Adam Hall. Hall has been touring with the Richard Jackson Trio (Singapore) and nationally with Big Jay McNeely (USA). He also found time to record two new CDs at the internationally famous Lion Studios in Singapore. Recent travels include travel to Europe to tour with Big Jay McNeely (USA) playing to full houses in Spain, Germany and Vienna as part of the Winter Festival series. Adam recently officially released his two latest CDs When It’s Party Time Down South and It’s You It’s Me at the Fremantle Arts Centre. The line up is Hall (lead vocals and trumpet), Tim Forster (original band member; tenor sax, flute and vocals), Mark Turner (Guitar and Vocals), Adam Springhetti (Double Bass), Matt Hanson (Drums) and special guest appearances by Jessie Gordon (Vocals) and original VP member Len Whittle (keyboard). Click here for tickets

Don't miss this incredible one off late show with the Guy Sebastian's touring band. The evening will kick off with a set from Howie Morgan, James Sandon and Tom O'Halloran (while the Guy Sebastian gig finishes at Burswood Theatre) and then it will be full steam ahead with the other three members - David Ryan Harris and friends Terepai Richmond and Adam Ventoura. David Ryan Harris is a singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles, California. Born in Evanston, Illinois, Harris moved to Atlanta at a young age. After a short period out of the limelight, Harris began working as a producer and featured guitarist with Dionne Farris, a former vocalist from hip-hop group Arrested Development. Harris’ guitar work can be heard throughout Farris’ 1995 album Wild Seed, Wild Flower. Harris worked with Farris until he launched his solo career in 1997. In March 2009, Harris performed with Australian musician Guy Sebastian at SXSW, Austin Texas and has been collaborating since then. Terapai Richmond is without doubt on of Australia's finest drummers and featured as part of the Australian acid jazz group DIG. He is highly in demand as a session and  touring drummer. Adam Ventoura began his musical career in Perth and after relocating to Sydney  has been bassist in some of Australia's iconic rock and pop bands including Jon Stevens and Guy Sebastian. Click here for tickets

SUNDAY 5.30pm The Gavin Kerr Quartet featuring Mel Crothers

This Easter Sunday the Gavin Kerr Quartet will be swinging up a storm at the Ellington with their favourite vocalist, Mel Crothers. After performing to packed audiences throughout 2012, this group of talented musicians are back to play their well loved brand of swinging jazz just for you. Joining Gavin will be Ookii Effendi on piano, Danny Moss Jnr on bass and Daron Crothers on reeds. Having performed hundreds of times together it is obvious, to the many audiences that have heard their music, that this quartet truly enjoy their musical partnership. SUNDAY 8.30pm Samba Social Club - Marcio Mendes and Friends

Tables removed for dancing so no table bookings available for this show. These guys play samba, the rhythms of North East Brazil and everything in between. Blending electronic sounds with acoustic vibrancy, these two have a natural chemistry that is infectious. Marcio Mendes - Marcio hails from Sau Paulo, Brazil's largest city. He has  played  music professionally since his early 20’s and has performed with highly respected names of the Brazilian music scene such as Djavan and also famous samba and pagode bands from Brazil such as Mundo do Samba, Arte Popular and Negritude Junior. He has entertained crowds as large as 100 thousand people in Brazil, Europe and Australia with artists such as Leandro Learte and the pianist Tania Maria. Click here for tickets
