Tim Freedman (The Whitlams) headlines this week at The Ellington


Join us for two encore shows on Saturday at 6.00pm and 9.00pm as Tim Freedman hosts his fireside chat with his well know songs and witty stories. Also the chance to catch Helen Shanahan as she relaunches her album "Driftwood" for the north of the river audience. Steve Tallis will be in fine form as he makes a return from his residency in Paris on Tuesday and new shows from The PJS (Wednesday) and Lewis Moody (Thursday). A full weekend of shows will be rounded out with Trifecta - a concert by Helen Matthews Adrian Kelly and Ray Walker on Sunday. Be sure to get in for some great music this week at The Ellington. 

MONDAY 7.00pm Helen Shanahan

Popular local talent Helen Shanahan has been hard at work writing and recording her debut album ‘Driftwood’ and after launching it at the Fly By Night Musicians Club in October, she is bringing her songs to the Ellington. ‘Driftwood’ comes three years after her first EP ‘Girl in Love’ which established Helen as a serious and soulful WA musician and a firm favourite at numerous venues around Perth including The Ellington and Mojos; and as a strong support act to The Basement Birds, Passenger and Matt Corby. Click here for tickets

TUESDAY 8.00pm Steve Tallis and the Holy Ghosts - Blues from the Maylands Delta

After four and a half years living in Paris Steve returns to one of his favourite clubs, The Ellington. With a stellar lineup of great musicians including Ben Vanderwal (Drums), Howard Shawcross (Bass) and Dave Clarke (Violin, Harmonica, Vocals) to present a night of Steve's unique "Blues From The Maylands Delta". The night will also include solo and duo performances - Acappella Field Hollers, Gospel, Blues and his own unique original compositions including many new songs written in Paris. WEDNESDAY 8.00pm The Perth Jazz Society presents The Collaboratory with Russell Holmes and Carl Mackey

Join the PJS on the first Wednesday of each month at The Ellington to see fresh and exciting collaborations between established local musicians. This PJS series will see established artists exercise their creative muscles, performing music in interesting and unusual combinations. Get ready to see the best in a whole new way.Russell Holmes (piano) + Carl Mackey (saxophone). Both giants in the Perth jazz scene, Russell Holmes and Carl Mackey have rarely performed in duo. THURSDAY 8.00pm Lewis Moody

Since moving to Perth in 2009 Lewis has worked with some of the finest musicians this city has to offer, across both the jazz and pop scene. Currently performing regularly with Perth mainstays, Meg Mac and the Squeeze, The Dynamites and Perth Electro-poppers Tim and Jean. Developing a healthy interest in electronics Lewis presents a night of music that operates in the space between the common and uncommon. Featuring a killer line up: Ricki Malet - Trumpet, Sean Little - Tenor Sax, Simon Fisenden - Electric Bass, Jacob Evans - Drums, Lewis Moody - Piano, Fender Rhodes and effects. Click here for tickets

FRIDAY 8.00pm Ali Bodycoat Quintet

Ali Bodycoat has been performing professionally in the Jazz scene throughout venues in Western Australia since 1995 with her Trio, Quartet and Quintet. Ali has performed at the Perth Jazz Society, Jazz Fremantle, Perth and Fremantle Festivals and worked consistently in Musical Theatre with yellow glass theatre inc since studying at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 2002. Recent shows have received critical acclaim including Minor Major Marlene - based on the work of Marlene Dietrich and Franklin - a tribute to Aretha Franklin. Click here for tickets

FRIDAY 11.30pm Deuces with Cristal Phillips and Solomon Pitt

Perth's king and queen of soul join forces to bring you Deuces for a very special show. A night of simply the best R&B and Soul Duets. Tim Freedman’s Fireside Chat will be an evening of grand pianos, sweet melodies and a few pointed opinions. Already renowned as a raconteur between songs, this year Tim will link the tunes together with some extended yarns such as "  "How I learned to stop worrying and hate Triple J"  " and "Why did Caroline Overington called my father a Jewish accountant". Tim Freedman is a singer/songwriter from Sydney, best known as the lead singer of The Whitlams, an ARIA Group of the Year with a string of gold & multi-platinum albums. His songs of charming well-crafted cynicism can sound as if Randy Newman had joined Crowded House. Click here for tickets

SATURDAY 11.30pm Late night groove series featuring Danielle O'Sullivan

With the help of her grooving band, Danielle O'Sullivan will bring you a night of RnB, Soul and Funk. Her fluid voice and the tasteful blend of styles create a great line up of music for a great night out. SUNDAY 6.00pm Trifecta - a concert by Helen Matthews Adrian Kelly and Ray Walker

MONDAY December 10th 7.00pm Chris Seally

Come and enjoy the music of Guitarist Chris Sealey in what is likely to be his last original music performance at the Ellington Jazz Club before he moves east to Melbourne. Chris is one of Perth’s most exciting young jazz guitar talents and has been performing at numerous venues for the last 4 years. Chris’s music has been described as “clever, but exciting” as well as “honest and packed with quirk”. Chris has had the privilege of collaborating with the rich fabric of musicians that make up the Australian Jazz scene as well as some work with notable New York musicians like Jim NcNeely, and Peter Bernstien. Chris is joined on stage by some of Australia’s most in-demand musicians, including; Tal Cohen on Piano, Karl Florisson on Bass, Chris Tarr on Drums and very special guest Jamie Oehlers on Saxophone. Click here for tickets
