Be sure to see Glacial Songs - An Evening With Jan Garbarek on Wednesday and the one and only 70's super-band Manteca on Thursday.

WEDNESDAY 8.00pm Glacial Songs - An Evening With Jan Garbarek

Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek has been a unique, keening presence in improvised music ever since the late sixties. This evening will feature music from two periods in his career: his time with the Keith Jarrett European Quartet in the 1970s, and Garbarek's own quartet with Bill Frisell in the 1980s. Please help us pay tribute to one of the jazz world's most enigmatic and powerful characters. Featuring: Dylan Hooper - saxophone, Tal Cohen - piano, Simon Jeans - guitar, Pete Jeavons - bass and Bronton Ainsworth - drums. Click here for tickets

THURSDAY 8.00pm Manteca

The encore performance of the legendary jazz fusion band, Manteca, led by Simon Styles returns to The Ellington. In the 1970’s many young people had their first taste of live jazz through the award-winning fusion band ‘Manteca’, formed and lead by Uwe who arranged music, and played flute and sax. A national ABC 10-part series followed, entitled ‘Manteca in Concert’. The band returns with a new line up that includes Ric Eastman, Roy Martinez, Pat Reale, Mario Anamalay, Uwe Stengel, Simon Styles, Benn Hodgkin, Kieren Hurley, Claire McGowan and Annie Neil playing the music of the Brecker Bros, Chicago, Horace Silver and many others. Click here for tickets

FRIDAY 6.00pm The Glyn McDonald Trio

Tonight we are delighted to welcome back the Glyn McDonald Trio. The musicians have collectively performed all over the world including Vancouver, Rome, Japan and Australia. The group draws influence from diverse ends of the musical spectrum. From classical through to Latin, and coupled with a knack for infectious toe-tappin’ swing, their collective works rest comfortably on a bed of groove-oriented originality. Click here for tickets

FRIDAY 8.00pm Nerissa Campbell (NYC)

Join Nerissa Campbell as she returns home to release her third album on Crooked Mouth Music, “Blue Shadows” – a neo-noir jazz soundscape of heartbreak and hope born in the gloom of a New York City winter’s night. Steeped in the Blues and garnished with the grit of Rock (picked up in part from her collaborations with Brooklyn post-metal band A Storm of Light), the whiskey warmth of Campbell’s jazz background blends well into “Blue Shadows”, a collection of songs celebrating the underworld of emotions—the sadness & desperation, the loneliness & yearning of a world where joy is elusive and the hard luck of broken dreams & unfulfilled love falls to the majority. Click here for tickets

Don’t miss this opportunity to see HMS PopUp Productions ‘A Saucy Little Secret’, a masterful modern theatre cabaret following the lives of five strong women whose music and attitudes influenced the development of modern music, queer lifestyle and racial tolerance. Famous not only for their music, but also for their progressive and alternative attitudes to sexuality, race issues and relationships, Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Gladys Bentley, Ethel Waters and Alberta Hunter, all broke into the music scene through the buffet flats and rent houses of Harlem, but rose to be successful and wealthy recording artists in their own right. Perth’s premier jazz, soul and blues musicians come together to share their untold stories. Kali Caramia, Libby Hammer, Odette Mercy, Natalie Gillespie and Harry Deluxe give five daring performances, weaving their way through stories both dangerous and decadent, often tragic and comic all at once. Spectacular Perth celebrity, Magnus Danger Magnus, holds court with the ladies as a most engaging, and slightly dangerous, Maitre D. Click here for tickets
