Tim Freedman (The Whitlams) headlines this week at The Ellington

Book now for one of the six special shows we are presenting by Whitlams front man Tim Freedman. It is no surprise that Tim's solo shows have become as popular as his band shows because The Whitlams’ success has always been about the emotional clout of his songs, which is laid bare when the rock adornments are removed. Another Jazz get away to check out is The Ellington presents Jazz in July at The Rottnest Hotel. Why not book for a winter weekender and check out some great jazz while you're at it. THURSDAY 6.00pm Tim Freedman's Fireside Chat
Get set for an incredible evening of grand pianos, sweet melodies and a few pointed opinions. Already renowned as a raconteur between songs, this year Tim will link the tunes together with some extended yarns such as "  "How I learned to stop worrying and hate Triple J" and "Why did Caroline Overington called my father a Jewish accountant". Tim Freedman is a singer/songwriter from Sydney, best known as the lead singer of The Whitlams, an ARIA Group of the Year with a string of gold & multi-platinum albums. His songs of charming well-crafted cynicism can sound as if Randy Newman had joined Crowded House. Late last year Tim released his solo debut “Australian Idle” and toured with his new band "The Idle". The album is an unabashedly joyful 70's piano-pop outing, and the first single, a remake of Billy Field's “ You Weren't in Love With Me”,  is enjoying extensive airplay nationally. Click here for tickets

SATURDAY 11.30pm Rocksteady
Creating some of the most exciting hybrids of music in its wake, the emergence and diversity of Australian hip hop is taking on many forms as it develops. And as the pioneering acts continue to push the envelope, a second generation of artists - ones influenced by the first wave of Australian hip hop - are emerging as their progeny. Recording his first song with Downsyde's Dazastah at the unbelievable age of 13; Paulie P is part of the next generation of Australian hip hop artists who are stepping up to the level of Australia's best, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with their influences. Dale Boaden - guitar, Sid Patni - Keys, Robin Murray - Double Bass, Garo Tanzi - Drums, Sam Nafie - Vocals and Paulie P - MC. Click here for tickets

SUNDAY 6.00pm Saffron Sharp
Saffron Sharp will be playing a hot set of intense ballads and roaring swing tunes on the Ellington's warm winter stage. Saffron's unique way of connecting with the audience has been reflected on many times by some of the current jazz leaders in the Australian jazz industry. Her warmth in communicating a melody can only come from her experience playing in duo and trio settings for years. Saffron shines as she takes this intimate feeling deep into a song drawing the audience to silence. The Ellington's performance space is an exciting venue to see Saffron as she takes advantage of the full band making standards fresh with the twist of a young musician. Piano - Tal Cohen, Drums - Jacob Evans, Bass - Nick Abbey and Trumpet - Adrian Kelly. Click here for tickets
