Rachel Claudio (Paris) headlines this week at The Ellington
Don't miss two electrifying late shows this weekend with the phenomenal vocal and songwriting talents of Rachel Claudio. We are also delighted to present two outstanding album launches this week with Lucie Thorne and Hamish Stewart (Sydney) on Thursday and Andrew Winton on Saturday.

TUESDAY 8.00pm Matt Richards Quartet with Marcus Gordon - Creatures of the Deep
Matt Richards’s former career in competition and commercial diving and the sounds and images from deep ocean experiences have greatly influenced his instrumental compositions. He also draws on the unique sounds of African bell music, ancient African Kalimba music patterns, drumming ensembles; Western harmony and jazz melody. Special guest vocalist and guitarist Marcus Gordon loves the country blues and soul sound and he is all set to help bring cupid’s arrow to the Ellington. WEDNESDAY 8.00pm Jamie Oehlers' Blowfish
Come and experience the powerful sound of this amazing 7 piece band. Performing a selection of arrangements from Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Charles Mingus and Duke Ellington. This exciting ensemble features the best players in town performing some ot the most distinctive and captivating repertoire from the 50's and 60's. The Ellington will come alive to the sound of this wonderful ensemble. With an all star line-up including Callum G'Froerer - Trumpet, Carl Mackey - Alto Saxophone, Jamie Oehlers - Tenor saxophone, Jeremy Greig - Trombone, Graham Wood - piano, Karl Florisson - bass and Jacob Evans - drums. THURSDAY 8.00pm Lucie Thorne - Bonfires in silver city album launch with Hamish Stuart (Sydney)
Acclaimed Australian songsmith Lucie Thorne brings her sensational duet show – with drummer Hamish Stuart – as part of a national tour to celebrate the release of her stunning new album, Bonfires In Silver City. Lauded for her unique voice, poetic lyricism, and tender-to-gutsy electric guitar playing, this new album has been receiving extraordinary acclaim across the country, described by many as her best work yet, and sees Thorne further hone her spacious, gritty, “exquisite miniatures of distilled emotion” (The Canberra Times), with that signature warmth and intimacy for which her live shows have become so renowned. Her passion for jazz/doo wop/soul can easily be recognized in her music, Tragic and suddenly she leaves us all with a catalogue of treasures to have and to hold. Celebrating the musical life of Amy Winehouse is a privilege and an honor. Perth singer Melody Whittle, along with a Stella Lineup of perth's finest musicians, are excited to commemorate the life & works of the one and only Amy Winehouse. This night will include favorites from both of Amy's' Frank' & 'Back to Black' albums along with some of her favorites and a little extra. A night not to be forgotten. Rachel Claudio is a singer/songwriter/pianist/producer/actor originally from Australia, who draws influence from such Soul & nu-Soul artists as Chaka Khan, Lauryn Hill, Prince, Dwele, Erykah Badu & Marvin Gaye. She has performed as a professional musician solo and in live soul, RnB & nu-Jazz acts since the age of 14 in Western Australia. She moved to Paris in August 2006, where herself and Nicolas created the House music label JaffaMusic. Whilst in Paris, she has collaborated with, written for or sung for King Britt, Martin Solveig, Ralf Gum, Yass, DJ Fudge, Tony L & Roy Davis Jr. Rachel has formed a band in Paris as a vehicle for her original Soul compositions. She released her incredible album Claudiography in 2011 to critical aclaim. Rachel is a powerhouse singer, musician and composer of the highest order and has to be seen to be believed. SATURDAY 8.00pm Andrew Winton - "Happy" Album Launch
To celebrate the December 2nd release of Andrew Winton’s highly anticipated fourth studio album, Happy, he will be having his album launch show in the fabulous surrounds of The Ellington Jazz Club. Gaining world-wide recognition for his stellar lap-slide guitar playing and unique instrument designs, one of Australia’s hardest working independent musicians brings his one-of-a-kind performance to the Ellington stage. An Andrew Winton live show covers everything from rootsy infectious grooves to alt-country melancholic rambles, old-school blues to beatboxing and loops, lyrically and melodically beautiful folk to jazz-influenced acoustic guitar wizardry and everything in between!
