Deborah Conway and Willy Zygier headline this Saturday night with a special one off Ellington show. The sublime Grace Woodroofe is back for two special shows on Tuesday and Wednesday and a debut show from Sydney singer songwriter Brett Winterford on Thursday. Other shows to check out include the debut of the FSO - Five Sax Orchestra on Sunday and a fantastic Song Lounge this Monday evening.
MONDAY 7.00pm Song Lounge
Presented by North Street Music, Song Lounge features a selection of Australia's leading singer-songwriters together for an evening of wine, tapas and storytelling. This week's line up includes Riley Pearce - His musical influences includes the likes of Passenger, Matt Corby & Charlie Simpson who all have their own unique styling much the same as Riley offers. Jessica Morhall - Her songs reflect the internal dialogue of what it means to be human and carving out your own path in this world. Nat Ripepi - Rich, warm and emotive are a few words to describe the voice of one of Australia’s best kept vocal secrets. Returning from the USA for 2 special shows at The Ellington. With her uniquely warm, husky, and sometimes mournful voice, Grace Woodroofe is about to make a special mark on the music scene. At just twenty years of age, Perth-born Grace possesses wisdom and artistry well beyond her years. Forming a bond with music as a teenager, Grace taught herself to play guitar and sing. “I was greatly inspired by blues singers, and developed my own blues indie sound,” she says. At the age of sixteen, Grace’s demo was placed in the capable hands of Ben Harper by none other than the late Heath Ledger. Click here for tickets

THURSDAY 7.00pm Brett Winterford (Sydney)
Brett Winterford is a folk singer-songwriter from Sydney, Australia. Reinventing the modern day troubadour, Winterford has spent the last couple of years writing songs, travelling the globe and creating a groundbreaking path for folk music, performing unique concerts atop double-decker buses, on river barges, in ancient forts, bedrooms, corner pubs and cafes from Berlin to Brooklyn. His long awaited solo debut, ‘The Greenthumb EP’, is a set of six songs inspired by ‘Pan’ a famous Australian landscape painting by Sydney Long. The EP was recorded by Josh Schuberth (Josh Pyke) and it features special guests Mr Percival, Ray Mann and Kent Eastwood. Coloured by nylon-string acoustics and mandolins, pianos and mellotron, shakers, timpani and tom drums, the recordings deal with the trials and triumphs of the troubadour, the reclaiming of imagination and appreciation for the natural world. WAMI Award winning songstress Jodie Tes, makes her return to the Perth Jazz scene with an exciting repertoire inspired by Nina Simone, Billie Holliday and Ella Fitzgerald. Since graduating from the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 2001, Jodie has gone on to record three albums and to tour nationally and internationally. Conway & Zygier explore the breadth of sound that can be extracted from acoustic instruments and vocals. The sound is endlessly inventive within the bounds of real. Their new album “Stories Of Ghosts” is an examination of Old Testament themes, of existential uncertainty in the face of unchanging beliefs and coming to terms with the endless trade off that life is full of - loss leavened with happiness, tragedy with humour and sadness with joy. Building on the acoustic instrumentation of 2010’s Half Man Half Woman, Stories Of Ghosts adds layers of wood, strings & air, creating a sound that veers from delicate & melancholy to savage & fierce. SUNDAY 5.30pm FSO - Five Sax Orchestra
The ‘five sax orch’ was established as a dedicated band in 2012 after almost a decade working as a section with WASO, Malaysian Philharmonic, Singapore Symphony, and a multitude of shows. Providing an opportunity to meet together regularly and share great red wine was the real reason it solidified, but it soon became clear that this unique collection of fine saxophonists was becoming a musical force. FSO is: Matt Styles soprano and alto saxes & wannabe sommelier, Melissa Skinner alto and soprano saxes, stylist & consultant, Luke Pownall tenor and alto saxes, marketing guru & 5 Seeds cider model, Keith McGowan tenor sax, obsessive-compulsive cyclist, Alex Boyd baritone sax, wine & cigar connoisseur.
